This innovative series of video-based learning modules was years ahead of its time in concept and delivery. Designed to be given by primary care physicians to patients with chronic illnesses like diabetes, where self-care is absolutely essential to wellness and continued quality of life, the Wellness Project provided a package of written materials and a simple “how-to” video on self-care of a particular chronic condition or other self-treatment options. The project – an experiment in conjunction with several large hospitals and insurance providers – never took flight because of logistical issues relating to delivery of the modules via video – an issue now easily solved by streaming video technology. The project was put into a holding pattern. It was VHS based. The Internet was about to change the way the world communicated.
